Health Promoting Manuka Honey
Some of the health benefits of manuka honey are:
- Boosts the Immune Response
- Improved Digestive Health
Manuka honey is gathered in New Zealand from the flowers of the manuka tree, Leptospermum scoparium, which grows uncultivated in large areas throughout the country. Manuka honey has long been known for its exceptional health properties.
The special antibacterial activity of New Zealand’s manuka honey is acknowledged the world over.
While all honeys have a certain level of antibacterial activity due to hydrogen peroxide, some manuka honey also contains a high level of non-peroxide antibacterial components. It is this non-peroxide activity that gives genuine active manuka honey its wonderful, natural health benefits.
The special non-peroxide antibacterial activity is found only in honey from Leptospermum species, which is found only in a few remote places around the world – manuka in New Zealand, and its related species, jellybush, in Australia.
The special antibacterial activity in manuka honey was originally discovered by
Professor Peter Molan and his team at the University of Waikato Honey Research Unit.
The special antibacterial properties of manuka honey are great for general health and well-being.
